Cycling - Monday Rides

Status:Active, open to new members
Group leader:
When: Weekly on Monday mornings 9:30 am
Every Monday morning
Venue: Pershore Leisure Centre

Welcome!

This is a sociable cycling group that explores the lanes of Worcestershire and sometimes further afield on a weekly basis. We greet everyone who enjoys longer bike rides and a bit of a challenge. The number of riders per ride is between 6 and 9.

The ride details will be published by an email sent from the Group Leader by the Friday evening preceding the Monday ride. The rides last up to 3 hours and always include a cafe stop and natter towards the end of the ride.

We meet at the start, normally at Pershore Leisure Centre. Occasionally we start at different start points away from Pershore. Our cycling routes cover the 3 Counties of Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire.  Distance of rides is between 25 to 35 miles lasting 3 hours with a refreshment stop and natter after 2 hours.

The following points may be useful:

  1. The usual meeting point is located at Pershore Leisure Centre leaving every Mondaymorning at 9:30 - unless otherwise notified of a different start point/time.
  2. The schedule of rides operates the whole year. The Group Leader plans the route and publishes the route normally by the Friday evening proceeding the Monday.
  3. In the event of inclement weather or icy conditions the ride leader will inform everyone by 8:00 Monday morning that the ride is cancelled. The final decision to proceed on the ride must be made by each individual.
  4. The Group is open to any u3a member who is of good health and fitness who is capable of cycling a distance of 25 to 35 miles at an average pace of up to 10 to 12mph.
  5. The Group welcome all kinds of bikes and new members are very welcome to join us for a trial ride.
  6. We sometimes have an "out and about" ride, where we may start from a different location away from Pershore. On those occasions you will need to transport your bike to the start - so if you have a bike rack for your car so much the better. If you are able to take more than one bike plus rider, let the Group Leader know!
  7. The rider’s bike must be well maintained and roadworthy with sufficient on-board tools and spares to fix minor jobs, such as a puncture, whilst out and about.
  8. The appropriate safety helmet and bright cycling clothing is also considered essential.
