How Safe Are You?
The advice from the Hereford and Worcester Fire Service Prevent team is:
- Fit smoke alarms on every level of your property
- Test the batteries every week (e.g. Test on Tuesday) , change them every year and never
remove them - Take extra care if you need to leave the kitchen whilst cooking – take pans off the heat or turn
them off - Unplug appliances you are not using when you go to bed
- Put cigarettes out properly and dispose of them carefully. Put them out. Right out
- Make sure candles are secured in a proper holder and away from materials that may catch
fire like curtains - Close inside doors at night to help prevent fire from spreading
- Plan an escape route and make sure everyone knows how to escape
- Don’t tackle a fire yourself. Keep calm and act quickly, get everyone out as soon as possible
then dial 999
There were many sign-ups at the end for a referral for a free HOME FIRE SAFETY CHECK , a visit
from a qualified authorised technician who will test and fit devices for free to keep you safe.
